In their last two phases, the Civil Society Dialogue Türkiye and the EU and the Civil Society Support Programmes continued to support vulnerable groups and rights-based projects, contributing to the development of dialogues between civil society organisations (CSOs) in Türkiye and the European Union (EU) and candidate countries.

Voice of Civil Society

CSOs, now stronger with supports from Dialogue and Support Programmes, lent their voices to different groups in society and contributed to sustainable development, thanks to collaborations built through different platforms. A total of 73 projects in the fifth and sixth phases of the Civil Society Dialogue Programme, and 63 projects in the second and third phases of the Civil Society Support Programme were implemented.

New Networks Opportunity for Civil Society Actors

Networks established through various platforms by collaborative projects focusing on a wide range of topics from the rights of the disabled to gender equality, advocating the rights of producers and workers to consumer rights, from regional business networks to new generation cooperatives and raising awareness on minority rights. A total of 47 networks or platforms were established within the Dialogue Programme, and 45 in the Support Programme, in the last two phases of both programmes, with memberships of 1,060 and 981 CSOs respectively. Many projects run during the last two phases of both programmes have become an integral part of digital transformation through dialogue and collaborations they have established to challenge shared problems.

The “Enable Bridges with Sustainable Dialogue” Project, coordinated by Development Centre Association of Individuals with Disability and Their Families, helped advance the dialogue on the rights of the disabled among CSOs and public institutions. The project provided an open space for individuals to develop their theoretical knowledge when learning about disability rights through its e-learning platform. Flying Broom Foundation, an unflagging advocate of gender equality in Türkiye for years, launched its all-accessible gender equality digital platform with the “E-Pass for Equality” Project.

Empowerment of Women, Children and Disabled People

“Second Spring” and “Digital Inclusion for Older People“ Projects brought together the elderly and the CSOs working in this field from Türkiye, France, Spain, and Greece.  “Civil Society Dialogue for Empowering Youth Works in Local” and “Sustained CSO Dialogue on Employment of Youth with Disability” Projects established dialogue channels for a better future on increasing employment, as well as improving working and living conditions. Art, drama, publishing, and toy sets were some of the creative solutions used to rehabilitate children and prevent child abuse in the two projects, “Art by Children” and “Empower UCIM, Empower Children”.

A total of 77 websites were created, and 108 TV or radio programmes were produced for both programmes throughout their last two phases. An impressive reach in social media of more than 16 million for the Dialogue Programme, and more than 11 million for the Support Programme was achieved during this period.

This increased capacity in communication ensured reaching a much wider audience, hence an increase in awareness on EU-Türkiye relations.

The Oldest and Most Well-Established Grant Program

The Civil Society Dialogue between Türkiye and the EU, leaving behind its 15th year as the oldest and most well-established grant program implemented continuously for civil society in Türkiye and Civil Society Support Programme with its 5 years of journey in strengthening the public-civil society cooperation and increase the capacities of CSOs  will give way to The Civil Society Dialogue Türkiye Network as a continuation of the achievements of the both programmes and the center of partnerships between Türkiye and the EU.
